Age 81 of Omaha, peacefully passed away at his home on Friday afternoon surrounded by family and friends. He is preceded in death by mother, Elizabeth Bailey; and in-laws, Frank and Frances Stehno. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Joan (Stehno) Bailey. They have 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and Mel Holmes, Escondido, CA, Judy and Chris Stjernholm, Pueblo, CO, and Joanie and Alan Bark, San Diego, CA; son, John Bailey and wife Donna, who Don considered his fourth daughter; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Katie Stjernholm, Pueblo, Christine, Kathy, Ryan and Stephen Bailey, Omaha; sister Barbara Gillin and her children, Mary Beth Wass, Omaha, and Al Begley, Sunnyvale, CA; dearest lifetime friends and family survivors, Jean (Joan's sister) and Jean's husband, Joseph J Forman. An Omaha native, Don joined the Navy just prior to his 17th birthday. During the next 10 years, he spent 2 in the Navy, attended Navy Prep School in Bainbridge, MD, and then graduated in 1953 from the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD. After 4 years, he resigned his commission and spent the next 32 years at AT&T as a Professional Electrical Engineer. Retiring at an early age of 58 enabled him to pursue a second career of spending time in the outdoors, hiking the Colorado Rockies. One of his greatest joys was watching his "Magnificent Seven" (as he called his grandchildren) mature into adulthood.
Memorials to Christ the King Educational Fund or Masses. VISITATION begins Monday 3pm, with WAKE Service to follow at 7pm at Christ the King Catholic Church. SERVICE Tuesday 10am, Christ the King Catholic Church. ENTOMBMENT, Calvary, with Military Rites by Benson VFW Post #2503. HEAFEY-HEAFEY-HOFFMANN

Don you will be greatly missed, such a wonderful man. I am glad that I came to know you, a day before you passed you opened your eyes and told me that you loved me and it meant a lot to me. REST IN PEACE.
