Jean Henty PalmiterHAMILTON >> Jean Henty Palmiter, 94, a long-time resident of Hamilton, N.Y. passed away peacefully, May 7, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Curtis Bay, Md. She was born in Oneida on July 11, 1923, the eldest of four born to Olive Ruby Henty and Ralph Henty. Jean graduated in 1941 from Oneida High School and earned a BS in Home Economics from the State Teachers College at Buffalo in 1945. After teaching briefly in Sackets Harbor and Earlville, she worked for the welfare department in Hamilton for a few years. She was married to Dr. Robert B. Palmiter on June 23, 1956. After taking time off to raise her children to school age, she returned to teaching for many years in Hamilton. Jean was a member of the Park United Methodist Church, where she was a long-term member of the choir. She enjoyed golf, reading, tennis, knitting, and swimming. She excelled at bridge and bowling and enjoyed the social life of her activities. She was a member of the Red Hatters and the Jubilation chorus. She also volunteered in the community at the Hamilton Community Memorial Hospital Worn Again, and the League of Women Voters. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Palmiter (Diane Fenton) of Hamilton, N.Y. and Dr. Priscilla Palmiter (Terri Annis) of Baltimore, Md; brother Ralph ("Bud") Henty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert B. Palmiter, and brothers, Richard ("Dick") and John ("Jack") Henty.A Memorial Service will be held June 9 at 10 a.m. at the Park United Methodist Church, Hamilton, N.Y. There are no calling hours.
