He was born in Syracuse and grew up in the Valley section of Syracuse. He attended Central Tech and served in the US Marine Corps from 1966-68. Dick held various data processing (information technology) positions through the years. While enjoying corporate life, he was motivated to be his own boss and was an astute businessman who successfully owned many establishments in Central New York. The Clay Hotel, Pfohl's Phoenix Tavern, Hotel Oneida, with Pfohl's Beachouse as his crowning jewel. Dick was a big advocate in supporting live entertainment for over 30 years to the CNY area. He will be greatly missed by the entertainment industry.
He is predeceased by his parents, Robert A. and Shirley G. Pfohl and brother, Thomas J.
He leaves behind his loving companion of 18 years, Karen Norton; son, Richard M. (Luz) Pfohl, Tolland, Conn.; brothers, Robert (Roseanne) Pfohl, John Pfohl, both of Syracuse; sister-in-law, Christine Carbone; grandchildren, Dylan Keller, Caleb, Aspen, Nathan, Galilee and Jacob Pfohl; nieces, Nolita Pfohl, Karen (Jim) Hart, Kathy (John) Keys; nephews, Matthew and Steve Pfohl.
While Dick mostly enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Dylan and wintering in Florida, he was an avid Yankee Fan, known for his blonde hair, strong political views and his absolute over the top sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. To all who remain, he bids farewell. Dick always did it his way and thankfully had a great ride. We love ya Dick!
