Charlie Homer Fortson

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlie Homer Fortson, 84, of Charlotte died Friday, November 26, 2004, at the home of his son in Locust, N.C.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 29, at his church, St. John's Baptist, with the Reverend Dr. Richard Kremer officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 this afternoon, Sunday, at the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 5301 Albermarle Road.
Born July 23, 1920, in Madison County, Ga., a son of the late Thomas Jackson and Lizzie C. Lord Fortson, he retired from Scandura Belting Company as a loom fixer.
Mr. Fortson is survived by three sons, Wayne Fortson of Bessemer City, N.C., Larry Fortson and his wife Ruth of Locust, N.C. and Daniel Fortson and wife Deborah of Lancaster, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Dorothy Barber Barker of Boone, N.C. and Nancy Barber Bailey and her husband James of Nokesville, Va.; two brothers, Este Fortson of Danielsville and Daryl Fortson of Salisbury, N.C.; two sisters, Lucy and Mary Hazelrig, both of Cleveland, Ala.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Mae Barber Fortson, son-in-law, Richard Barker and brother Dupree Fortson.
Memorials may be sent to New Tribes Missions, 1000 East First Street, Sanford, Fla. 32771.
