Dr.  Will Ewing "Bill" Johns Jr. Obituary
Will Ewing "Bill" Johns, Jr., 86, husband of Evyonne McElwaney Johns, died Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Born in Nashville, he was the son of the late Will Ewing Johns, Sr. and Nancy Settle Johns. He served in both the US Navy and Air Force. Mr. Johns taught high school in Fulton County and later continued his profession in education through his Doctorate in Education from the University of Georgia. Dr Johns worked as a Director for Continuing Education at the Georgia Center. He also maintained his role throughout the years as the Executive Secretary of the Southeastern School of Alcohol and Other Drugs where he facilitated conferences and trainings for substance abuse and law enforcement professionals. Following retirement from UGA he became the Dean of the Athens campus of Truett-McConnell College. Dr Johns was a very active member of Green Acres Baptist Church for more than forty years, serving in multiple roles including as a deacon. In addition, he served his community through work as a Gideon and other organization such as the Athens area homeless shelter, library board, and teaching English to international students. In retirement, he also traveled to China to perform mission work in his later years. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons: David (Vickie) Johns of Buford, GA and Will (Beth) Johns of Charlotte, NC; and four grandchildren: Andrew, Elise, Mallory, and Will IV. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 12:00 at Green Acres Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 at Green Acres Baptist Church on Friday, August 10, 2018. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Gideons International, Athens, East Camp, P.O.
