Toccoa - Warren Terrell Wilkinson, age 83, of 3966 Highway 184 North, Toccoa, passed away April 25, 2010, at the home.
The son of the late Gordon and Mae Wilkinson, he was born December 2, 1926, in Banks County, Ga., and had lived most of his life in Stephens County. He graduated from Stephens County High School in 1943 and received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Georgia in 1946 and a MasterÕs in Education from the University of Georgia in 1961. During his career, he served as a vocational agriculture teacher, elementary school teacher and principal and Superintendent of Schools in Stephens County. He also served as member and chairman, Georgia Committee Commission on Secondary Schools, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). He retired from his position as a principal in the Habersham County School System after many years of service.
He was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church for 63 years where he served as a Trustee of the church, Chairman of Deacons, former music director, Adult Sunday School Class teacher for 50 years and church treasurer until his death. He served as Chairman of the Building Committee when the new church was constructed in 1974 and was a strong advocate for the current building program. He was very active in the community, serving as Toccoa Little League President, Member and Chairman of the Stephens County Hospital Authority, a fifty year member and Past Master of Toccoa Masonic Lodge #309, and he was recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives and the State Senate with resolutions acknowledging his vital role in the education system of Georgia and his contributions in the community. He was a devoted and faithful husband, an obedient son, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alline Satterfield Wilkinson; and son-in-law, Tom Leverette. Survivors include two daughters, Kaye Leverette of Toccoa and Melinda Quick and her husband, Jay Quick, of Toccoa; two sons, John Wilkinson and his wife, Debbie Wilkinson, and Mark Wilkinson and his wife, Kathi Wilkinson, all of Toccoa; eight grandchildren, Terrell and Tiffney Wilkinson of Toccoa, Adam and Tara Williams of Cornelia, Matthew and Andrea Pethel of Homer, Blakley and Brandi Crumley of Toccoa, Chad and Brittany Ivey of Carnesville, Mark Wilkinson Jr. of Toccoa and Kristen Quick and Kaitlin Quick, both of Toccoa; and 10 great-grandchildren, Griffin, Gavin and Graden Wilkinson of Toccoa, Anna, Ella and Cliff Pethel of Homer, Andi Williams of Cornelia, Maecee Crumley of Toccoa and Alline Kay and Colsen Ivey of Carnesville.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, at three oÕclock in the afternoon at Tates Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Blakley Crumley, Chad Ivey, Matthew Pethel, Mark Wilkinson Jr., Terrell Wilkinson and Adam Williams.
Honorary escort will be Tates Creek Baptist Church Board of Deacons and members of the Toccoa Masonic Lodge #309.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Wilkinson Sr., 4052 Highway 184 North, Toccoa, and will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 27, from 3 -5 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Interment will be in the church cemetery with the Reverend Frank Sailers officiating. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Tates Creek Baptist Church building fund, 4052 Highway 184 N, Toccoa, GA 30577. Don and I were fortunate to have known a man like Mr. Warren Wilkinson. We knew him through being a great principal of South Habersham. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ben and I are saddened to learn of Mr. Wilkinson's death. We knew him from Royston High School and he, his wife and daughter came to our reunions. May he find joy in reuniting with his wife.
