Mr. Chandler Brooks Barton, son of the late Herman and Thelma Barton, was born January 6, 1934 in Elberton, Georgia. He went home to be with the Lord on February 12th, 2017.

Chandler grew up in Elberton, Georgia and never forgot his childhood town where he was the high school quarterback for the Elberton Blue Devils. Those who got to know him certainly heard a few stories about Elberton, which claims the title "Granite Capital of the World." Chandler's tombstone is produced from this Elberton granite. Chandler graduated from the University of Georgia in 1958 (BBA) along side his Kappa Sig brothers. He remained a "Georgia Bulldog" for life and every fall Saturday he was tuned to Bulldogs football. At the University of Georgia, he met his future wife-to-be, Patricia Crymes.

After graduation, he spent ten years with Security Mortgage Corporation. In 1968, he left his post as Vice President and entered the real estate realm with his neighbor, Roy Ludwig. They co-founded Barton and Ludwig real estate brokerage company. Over the next ten years, Barton and Ludwig became one of the largest real estate companies in the Southeast. Around 1979, Coldwell Banker contacted him to express its interest in a southern expansion, and despite offers from other organizations, Chandler and Roy sold their company to Coldwell Banker. Impressed with Chandler, Coldwell Banker kept him in various executive positions. In 1989, he was named President and CEO. From 1989 to 1996, Chandler provided strong leadership, vision, and a highly effective managerial style, delivered by an engaging personality with his "Can Do" attitude. His spirit and commitment to business growth and strategy left a lasting impression on Coldwell Banker. Having climbed to the highest level in the corporate world, Chandler never abandoned his values of integrity, honesty, hard work, and love of family that he took from his childhood days in Elberton, GA.

Chandler was the definition of a Southern gentleman. He brought a smile to every face he met with his welcome smile, warm handshake or loving embrace, and generous doses of wit and humor. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife of 58 years, Patricia, and his children: Son, Curtis Barton and daughter-in-law, Carla, and grandchildren, Megan, Casey, Cole, Bryce, and Avery of Johns Creek, GA. Daughter, Lea (Barton) Mikosz, son-in-law, Mike Mikosz, and granddaughter, Sarah Mikosz of San Clemente, CA.

A memorial service is scheduled for February 16th, at 11 a.m. at Perimeter Church Day Chapel, 9500 Medlock Bridge Road, Alpharetta, GA, with reception to follow immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Chandler Barton Memorial Fund --

You were somebody from the very
start of your life.
We shared Friday night sleeping quarters
across the ravine in the middle 40's.
I visited with you and your family outside
of Atlanta in the summer of 1974.
I remember your whole family as good
hard working people.
And you outworked them all.
Happy sailing while keeping the
wind to your back.
God Love,

Chandler was the greatest influence in my life of anyone outside my family. He never took credit for his success. He would always pass it down to people like me. Even though I haven't seen him in twenty or so years and talked too him very few times in that period, I truly loved him and thank him for the success I have had. I proudly named my son after him. God bless him and his sweet wife Pat and his children.

My sincere condolences and sympathies to Pat,Curtis and the families. Memories go all the way back to the first class of recruits for new real estate agents in 1968 when the company was Barton, Ludwig & Cole. Chandler made a great positive impact on the Atlanta and later the national real estate industry. His insight and foresight has left a great mark on all the many that he touched in his life. He will be missed.

Chandler was a true icon in the real estate business. It was always a joy to see and talk to him. He loved the business and he loved the agents that worked for him. He had a great sense of humor and new when to be stern, but it was always followed with a smile and pat on the back that things would get better. He will be missed by thousands of realtors, friends and family. Sincerely, Beth Barron, Associate Broker
