Doris Whitesides was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Rock Hill. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Hare Sr. and Maggie Yongue Hare. She was a music teacher in the public schools, taught piano lessons, played for many weddings and funerals and was organist for Barron Funeral Home for many years. Doris was a member of Chester First Baptist Church, where she served as music director for 31 years. After retiring as music director, Doris continued her musical talent by starting and directing groups at church. Doris was chairman of the Bereavement Committee at First Baptist Church.

Doris especially loved being "Mama D" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a good sense of humor and believed strongly that everyone was blessed with a talent or skill that should be used wisely, pleasing our Lord and Savior.
