Ralph L. Tackett, 97, of Glenwood passed away July 29, 2021 in Glenwood. A visitation is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. at Vine Street Bible Church in Glenwood. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Ralph was born April 25, 1924 in Malvern, and was one of twelve children born to William Harvey and Cora Ethel (Bailor) Tackett. He was a graduate of Tabor, Iowa High School.
Ralph was united in marriage to Millie Carolyn Snider on December 8, 1946 in Mills Count Iowa and they celebrated 74 years of marriage in December 2020. To this union three children were born: Twila, Philip and Rosanne. He was a farmer and true steward of the land. He treasured time spent with this family traveling, fishing with the grandkids, taking them on tractor rides and family gatherings. A large garden and flower beds were also a labor of love that Ralph and Carolyn enjoyed together.
Ralph was a longtime member of the First Christian Church (Vine Street Bible Church) where he was involved in several committees, served as an Elder, Sunday School treasurer and was a youth group leader. He also greeted members for over 50 years. Ralph was a member of the Optimist Club, Masonic Lodge and involved as a Farm Bureau member in the early years. He was a talented wood worker, loved feeding and watching the birds and had a large John Deere tractor collection. He was an avid bowler in Glenwood and bowled on local and traveling men's bowling leagues winning several trophies as well as couples bowling leagues with Carolyn.
Preceding Ralph in passing were his parents, siblings Harold Tackett, Fern Mackey, Orville Tackett, Wilbur Tackett, Paul Tackett, Dwight Tackett, Walter Tackett, Wilda Howser and son Philip Tackett. Survivors include his loving wife Carolyn Tackett of Glenwood, Iowa; daughters Twila Tackett of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Rosanne Tackett Nutting of Bellevue, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings Edson Tackett of Omaha, Nebraska, Harry (Sharon) Tackett of Peoria, Arizona, Alice Inman of Ankeny, Iowa, several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Memorial donations may be directed to Vine Street Bible Church or the Glenwood Public Library.
