Elaine Mary (Henkey) Marshall, 92, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2021. She was a 10 year resident at Rowntree Gardens in Stanton. Elaine was born on August 18, 1928, to Max and Dorothy Henkey. She spent her happy girlhood in the Seal Beach Community with her family, including her brothers Wilfred, Leonard, and sister Doreen. The "Henkey Home" at 706 Ocean Ave. (to the right of the pier), was filled with hospitality and community service. She married her high school sweetheart James (Jim) Marshall following her high school graduation from Huntington Beach High in 1946. They lived in Denver, CO while Jim served in the Army Air Corps. They returned to So. Calif. to start their family - bringing son Lee and daughters Dawn and Dianna into the world. Elaine had a lifelong love of working with children. She went to college to become an elementary school teacher in 1966. She also loved reading, writing stories in rhyme, and painting. Her friends and family were always treated to many handmade crafts and knit items. She loved playing hymns and tunes from the 40s on the piano. Jim and Elaine both loved swing dancing, their favorite step was "The Balboa". Her life Bible verse was Hebrews 6:19a. "This certain hope of being saved is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls..." Elaine's Celebration of Life was held at sea on April 17th. Her son-in-law Michael Donovan officiated with family and friends in attendance. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Jim and son-in-law David Edwards. She is survived by her children: Lee (Cindy) Marshall, Dawn Edwards, and Dianna (Michael) Donovan as well as five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Elaine was a much beloved neighbor of our family along with Jim for many years. Our sons were fortunate to spend many afternoons in the backyard with Jim and his trains, then inside for Angel Food cake and ice cream with Elaine. We remember Elaine as being kind, caring and faithful.
Godspeed, dear friend.
