In Loving Memory September 14, 1932 - April 28, 2021 Richard passed away peacefully on April 28, 2021, from heart complications, in his Westminster CA home, surrounded by his four children and family to be with his Lord. His children are thankful for God's presence and Holy Spirit bringing peace in Richard's final moments prior to him meeting his Maker. Richard was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Jeanette (Minardi) Hendricks, and Daughter-in-law Nancy (Hollingsworth) Hendricks. He is survived by his children June (Dave) Helgestad, Richard (Erin) Hendricks, Ron Hendricks, and Jean Hendricks Richard was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. After high school, he worked as an apprentice at a local Optical Company. After serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ashland (LSD) during the Korean war as an electrician, he attended college in Philadelphia, where he completed his Electrical degree. Then Richard accepted employment in California with Hughes Aircraft Company, in El Segundo. Much of his 36-year career was working on Radar Installations, Satellites, Communication Systems and Logistics. During this time of transition, Richard and Jeanette were getting ready to celebrate the birth of their first child, June. Although California became Richard's permanent residence, his job assignments took his family to El Paso, Texas and eventually four years in Hawaii. The family continued to grow with Richard Jr., born in Texas, Ronald M., born in California and Jean C., born in Hawaii. Richard also worked in Japan for a brief period. Richard married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette, on February 12, 1955 and celebrated 60 years of a beautiful marriage. He enjoyed working around the house and repairing anything that would help Jeanette while she raised the kids. Richard's unique talents were endless. From repairing the cars to building an extra room on the house, his inquisitive drive and curiosity of how things worked, gave him and others he cared for, much satisfaction during any project. Looking back, his children would agree that there were very few undertakings he could not tackle. Richard was selfless, generous and always concerned about others, neighbors, colleagues, Jeanette and the kids. During the kids' busy high school years, when there were more drivers than cars, Richard opted to give up his car and take the bus to work; one of many small ways he routinely put others first. He was always available for the kids' school and sporting events and even at one time when the economy wasn't doing well and possible layoffs were looming, he moonlighted fixing TV's in the garage, sometimes late into the evenings. Richard overcame many obstacles as a child, as far as not having a traditional mother and father upbringing. Since having his mother in his life, full time, for only a short period, he relied on his grandparents, aunts and uncles, for love and support. Just knowing the road was full of opportunities and by the grace of God, was anchored in confidence to enjoy what came his way. Richard led a productive and fulfilling life. Richard always had a positive attitude, and sense of fun with friends, family and of course enjoying the presence of Jeanette. At the end of his life, he had four children, five grandchildren--Kendall J., Brett M., Russell A., Weston R., and Jay D. -- and two great-grandchildren, Ellis G., and Bravery J. Richard will be missed by all, but he is alive in the presence of Almighty God. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14072 Olive Street, Westminster, 92683 (714) 892-4489.
