Passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side at Southlake Regional Healthcare Centre, Newmarket on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Daughter of the late Florence and Gordon Gilmore. Loving mother of Penny and Tracy Donovan and much loved grandma of Gregorey. Dear sister of Joan Westlake. Loving aunt of Ken, Brian and Wayne Westlake. Shirley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by extended family members and her wide circle of friends. A Celebration of life will be planned for a time when we can be together again. If so desired, memorial donations to Matthews House Hospice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Drury Funeral Centre, Alliston. 705-435-3535. Shirley was born in Alliston on February 19, 1941 to Florence and Gordon Gilmore. After completing her formal education, she began a career with the Ontario Provincial Police in Alliston and retired after 42 years of service. Shirley took great pride in her work and was highly respected by her colleagues. In her retirement, she enjoyed travelling the world with friends and family. Shirley was always a true friend and gave selflessly to others. Her kindness and compassion brightened the days of many. She was very active in her community and was a dedicated member of the Women's Probus Club, the Red Hats Society, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In each of these groups she established and maintained lifelong friendships. In addition, Shirley was a volunteer at Matthews House Hospice. In reflecting upon the life of our Mom, we are so proud of all that she gave to our family, her friends and her community. She lived up to the mottos of the groups in which she participated. Her strength was gained from fellowship and her success was seen in her participation. Life, learning and friendship; three words that established the cornerstones of her commitment to all that she did. In recent years, our Mom bravely fought to overcome the pain and suffering of cancer. As she fought, she was supported and surrounded by the love of family and friends and a dedicated health care team. We are forever grateful to our family and friends. We would like to thank the staff at the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, Southlake Regional Health Care Centre, Home Health Nursing staff and the dedicated staff of Matthews House Hospice for their professional, compassionate care. It is with very heavy hearts and a sense of sadness beyond compare that we say farewell to our beautiful Mom. "You are gone, but will never be forgotten. May you rest peacefully and may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
