Mary T. Gautreaux
Oct. 17, 1947 - Sept. 20, 2019
Mary Gautreaux died Sept. 20, 2019, leaving a legacy of problem-solving and a love of wild places.
Born 1947, raised in Richmond, Mary went west by 1970 and left behind her debutante youth. By the late 1970s, Mary had settled in Oregon's rural Blue Mountains and then supported her family with seasonal Forest Service work. Mary went on to earn a Master's degree in Public Policy while also raising her family. Starting in 1994, Mary passionately served Oregon and Oregonians under Senator Ron Wyden, rising to be the Senator's Deputy State Director.
Mary is survived by her children, Ryder, Myria, Callie and Lucas; and her five grandchildren; as well as countless friends, from the streets of Portland to the halls of Congress.
In her honor, donations may be made to Housecall Providers and Soul River.

Thank you, Mary, for a lifetime of doing what matters, unapologetically. Thank you for being kind to a young intern earning her chops. You will be missed.

I worked with Mary many times, starting in 1987-89 on river protection legislation. She was a gem-- wonderful to work with, honest, committed. We lost a great and wonderful soul.

I didn't truly know Mary. Not well. But I knew she was wonderful. Travelling with Senator Wyden, they visited my place of business frequently. I happilly assisted her with her needs and requests and always looked forward to seeing her. She would stick around to chat a bit and even introduced me to her grandchildren. This whirlwind of a wonderful lady made me feel that I was worth talking to and sharing with. I've never met anyone quite like her and I will treasure these memories and will always think of her very fondly.

Mary was such an Angel. Always positive and always dedicated to Oregon and her people. Her tireless public service, energy and passion are unparalleled and she will be missed dearly both by those of us who knew and loved her and millions of Oregonians who didn't have that honor and privilege.
