Robert Gillett(1947 - 2014)

Gillett, Robert Robert was known as Rob to his family, and Bob to his friends. He was born on March 4th, 1947, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Bob grew up on Cavanaugh Lake, and graduated from Chelsea High School, the class of '65, in Chelsea, MI. He also attended Seminole Community College, and taught some classes there, in Sanford, FL. Bob passed away in Deland Hospital, Deland, FL, on April 20, 2014. He was 67 years old. Bob's interests were studying and researching the history of Florida. He enjoyed fishing, especially in the St. Johns River, when his health permitted. He did not like fishing where there were jet skis. Bob was an amateur photographer for a few years. He enjoyed owing and riding 2 Harley's when his health permitted. He collected guns and guitars. He played the guitar pretty well, but never thought so. Bob also like to paint in oils and acrylics. He loved the Beatles and Jethro Tull. Bob was employed as a printer in Michigan. He also managed a Domino's Pizza there. Bob moved to Florida in 1969. He found a job in a print shop. Bob became a Volunteer with the Casselberry Fire Dept in 1970. Shortly thereafter, he attended the state fire academy, and was a full time, paid, fire fighter with Lake Barton Fire Department, in Orange County, FL. He later joined the Casselberry Fire Department and attained the rank of LT. When he received his medical retirement in 1994, he was acting Battalion Chief. Bob enjoyed his work as a firefighter. He loved repelling off of tall water towers and running into burning buildings. He was not afraid to climb the tallest ladder to try to rescue anyone that needed help. Bob was not adrenaline junky. He just tried to always do his best and do the right thing. He was a leader, and all of his firefighter "Brothers" were proud to serve with him. When Bob was a child, his Mom said that if she told him not to go more than a block from the house, Bob would go a mile, always pushing the boundaries. Bob liked to tell ghost stories, and was really good at it. He told them in such a way that anyone that listened believed them. Bob became an animal lover when he married his wife, Judy Williamson Gillett. The met in 1975, and married in 1978, to stay married 36 years. Judy and Bob, both volunteered for the West Volusia Humane Society, in Deland, FL. Bob helped by donating time visiting potential homes of animals to be adopted. He also helped by donating monetarily. Bob's home is full to this day with animals from the shelter. 4 cats and 1 dog remain to mourn him. Bob is mourned by many friends and family. Family members include, wife, Judy Gillett (Deland), Brother, Donald Gillett (St Petersburg), daughters, Yvette Lambert (Temple Terrace), Becky Gregory (Deland), Niece Sandra Gillette Drexler, Sister, Jean Tassos, (Battle Creek, MI), Nephews, Edward Gillett, (Orlando), Terry, Jim, Rick Tassos (Battle Creek, MI).
