Louvenia Edge

EDGE, LOUVENIA, Louvenia Littleton Edge claimed her heavenly reward on Thursday morning, May 29, following a brief illness. The previous day she had celebrated her 90th birthday. A native of Norris, SC, Louvenia attended Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, GA, where she was elected vice president of the student body and remained prominent in campus religious activities. After college she was employed by both the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board as a consultant in preschool children's work. In 1939 she married Findley Edge and a year later they moved to Louisville, KY where he entered the Southern Baptist Seminary to continue theological studies and then remained as a faculty member. Louvenia continued her children's work as head of the Children's Beginner Department at the historic Crescent Hill Baptist Church. She regularly published teaching materials for children's work and taught summer courses at Ridgecrest, a Baptist retreat center. Following retirement, the Edges moved to Winter Park to join their sons already living in the area. In Orlando both were active at College Park Baptist Church serving in various leadership positions demonstrating the values and principles taught in seminary. Later they moved to Orlando Lutheran Towers where Louvenia remained following Dr. Edge's death in 2002. Louvenia will be dearly remembered for her genuine love for people. During seminary days, their home was always open to students for a warm meal or words of encouragement. In retirement they continued to find ways to help others with acts of inspiration and kindness. "Well done, thou good and faithful servants...enter ye now into the house of the Lord"! She is survived her sons, Larry Edge and Hoyt Edge, his wife,
Charlene, and his daughter, Shannon. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Monday, June 2, at the Carey-Hand Cox Parker Funeral Home in Winter Park. The service will be held at the College Park Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 3, at 10AM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Findley and Louvenia Edge Educational Foundation in care of College Park Baptist Church.
