Colon "Steve" Horne Notice
Mr. Colon "Steve" Horne of Windermere, age 91, went to spend eternity with our Heavenly Father on June 27, 2018. He was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia on October 20, 1926 to Walter and Arra Horne. He is preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. Steve was a member of Church at the Cross (Central Florida Baptist Church) for nearly 10 years and prior to that was a member of Calvary Assembly for 30 years. He was a Godly man and dedicated his life to serving the Lord. Steve and his wife, Daisy, were married for 62 years. Together they led the Nursing Home and Shut-in Ministry at Calvary Assembly for 17 years until the death of Daisy in 2008. Steve served his country proudly as a Machinist Mate Chief in the US Navy for 21 years. He fought in the Battle of Midway and the Battle of Leyte Gulf during World War II, and for an extended period he was the Chief responsible for the #4 boiler, shaft and propeller on the aircraft carrier, USS Forrestal. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retirement from the Navy, Steve became a civil servant and worked for the US government for 21 additional years before retiring a second time. He had a profound influence on the lives of everyone he met, especially his family, loved ones, and friends. Steve is survived by his loving, devoted daughter Deborah Warren Engle and son-in-law Dr. Charles Engle of Windermere; four grandchildren, Brittany Sudduth of Pompano Beach, Sean Warren of Orlando, Allison Debs of Miami Lakes, and Jeremy Warren of Orlando; nine great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Warren, Tyler Debs, Abigail Sudduth, Nolan Warren, Elizabeth Debs, Jacob Sudduth, Ryan Debs, Kyle Debs, and Dylan Debs. Viewing will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Church at the Cross, 700 Good Homes Road, Orlando, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 at Church at the Cross with Pastor Dexter Johnson and Mr. Jack McLendon officiating. Internment services will be held at All Faiths Memorial Park, 1390 Park Drive, Casselberry, Florida at 1:30 PM with Pastor Ken Stutts presiding.
