1925 - 2018 Notice Condolences
Dorothy Elizabeth Smith Notice
Dorothy passed away peacefully on Sunday August 5, 2018, surrounded by family. She was born in Duquesne, PA on February 23, 1925, to Andrej and Anna Jancsik and had six siblings. Dorothy led a wonderful life where she successfully juggled family and career. While in nurses' training in Pensacola FL, she met and married James Windham, a Navy aviation ensign. After training they moved to Orlando to raise a family. Dorothy began her career as a registered nurse at the Florida Hospital and eventually retired from the Navy's Occupational Health program. Dorothy was never one to shy away from a challenge. During her career, at age of 60, she moved to Germany to establish the Army's first occupational health program there. Dorothy had an infectious laugh and was extremely proud of her children and their families. She loved to host family gatherings. "Oma," as she was called by her grandchildren, was their "life cheerleader." Dorothy is going to be missed very much by family and friends alike. There will be no service at this time. She is survived by her family, Jim Windham (Cindy), Jan Glester (Joe), and Alicia Windham Reid (Jim), including eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
