Jack Partain Obituary

Jack Minyard Partain, Jr., 71, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2020 of complications from a brief and courageous battle with pancreatitis. He was born in San Antonio on October 2, 1948, to Dr. Jack Minyard Partain and Ella Catherine Keenan Partain. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School, The University of Texas at Austin, and St. Mary's Law School. He practiced law for over 30 years, most of which were as a partner at Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. which later merged into Norton Rose Fulbright.

Jack married his high school sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Laura Maverick Meadows Partain at Christ Episcopal Church in San Antonio in 1971. Thereafter they became the doting parents of two daughters. These girls along with his wife became his greatest joy and first priority for the remainder of his life. His foundation of faith and family shaped him.

At a young age Jack developed a passion and gift for golf. He set the course record at Oak Hills Country Club and eventually was selected as President of the same Club. Professionally, Jack specialized in commercial bankruptcy law. He had the utmost respect for his colleagues and they in turn for him. Jack was a people person; he made others feels both at ease and important and genuinely cared about their daily lives. His greatest contribution though was to his family whom he cherished. He made the world a better place with his love.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Partain Bartoli of Austin. He is survived by his wife; daughter Laura Partain Lawton and husband Brett, of Winter Park, Florida; and daughter Mary Emma Partain, of Austin. Jack adored his six grandchildren: Annabelle, Lilly, and Jack Lawton; and Gus, Teddy, and Harry Civins. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Partain Powers and husband Bob, of Gig Harbor, along with several nieces and nephews. Services for immediate family members will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park and at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to El Buen Samaritano Mission at 7000 Woodhue Drive, Austin, Texas 78745 or a charity of choice.

Laura, So sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He and I were best friends at St. Anthony grade school in San Antonio. Lots of people thought we were twin brothers. Inseperable. Both short, skinny, beach boy blonde hair. Terrific altar boys. Many fond memories of 211 Belvidere. Ruthie, the maid, Pud, Jack's dog, Joan and Susan. And Mayre, Jack's grandmother. Trips to the pharamcy for Vanilla Cokes. Trips to Dr. Partain's office at the Baptist Hospital. Hitting golf balls at St. Anthony Seminary (I probably saw Jack's first ever attempt to swing a club). Sorry we didn't keep in touch after grade school. He was a terrific friend.

Hello Laura, so sorry to learn of Jack's passing. I have a lot of good memories of playing golf with Jack, including the round when he shot 63, the course record at Oak Hills. He could have beaten anyone that day! You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Jack and I became best friends when we were five years old, we went from first grade through college together. Until he moved to Austin, we always went to the same church although it changed for us both when we married. We shared a lifetime of memories as children , adults, parents and grandparents and always kept in touch. He will always have a piece of my heart . My love to you Laura and all your family. Laura it was great to catch up with you and Jack four years ago when we had our TMI 50th Reunion and ya'll helped with memories of Johnny. Jack was a golfing buddy at Oak Hills I think even before he met you. I was playing in a group behind him when he shot that 63 (I think it was!) You and your family are in my prayers dear friend.

Jack and Laura are both childhood friends. Jack was in my high school class and Laura in my sisters. Our parents were friends with both of their parents. My husband, Steve Swanson, was in our high school class and was a friend of Jacks also. We both enjoyed his quiet, friendly smile and attitude.
We were both so sorry to hear about his passing. We pray for Gods comfort and peace to be with you, Laura, and also with your daughters and their families.
With love,
Gay and Steve

Jack, Laura, and the girls were neighbors for many years. Such good times and laughs. And at the same time, a source for wisdom and great advice. Jack not only will be missed by his family but by everyone who knew him. Love and deepest condolences to Laura, wonderful daughters , and precious grandchildren. Sending a big hug over the miles.

I am saddened to hear of Jacks passing and extend my sympathy to his wife and family. I didnt know him really well but always enjoyed our brief chats in the hallway or on the elevator at work. He always had something witty to say and on more than one occasion a loving story about his wife.
