John Frederick Yeackle Notice
YEACKLE, JOHN FREDERICK, 71, of Longwood, FL died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 14, after fighting pancreatic and liver cancer for nearly five months. John was born to William "Fred" and Audrey Yeackle in Birmingham, AL in 1940. Their family moved to Sanford, FL in 1950 and developed Seminole Fish Camp, most recently known as Katie's Landing, on the Wekiva River. Growing up on the wild Wekiva, John fell in love with the wonder of God's creation. That wonder and inspiration has been captured in over 5,000 original watercolors during his 38 year career as a watercolor artist. John graduated from Seminole High School in 1958, and attended Southern Union College in Wadley, AL where he met and married his wife, Jane Price Yeackle. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. John graduated from Troy State University in 1962 and worked as a microbiologist for the state of Alabama until they moved their family to Longwood, FL in 1973. For several years he commandeered the corner of his father's Shell gas station at 46 and I-4 to host his unique "Buckboard Gallery". With their three daughters, they lived an adventurous life, traveling the country in their motor home and selling John's artwork at festivals and wildlife expositions. His awards and recognition are too numerous to count. John was an adoring husband, an attentive father, and according to his grandchildren, set the "gold standard" as a grandfather. He is survived by his wife Jane; his three daughters: Elizabeth Kee, Marilyn Lankford and husband Gary, Patricia Sullivan and husband Scott; their ten grandchildren: Cpl Matthew
Yeackle and wife Ashley, Lauren Lankford, Kristina Kee, LSSN Courtney Clark and husband Ryan, Jennifer Sullivan, Kevin Lankford, Danny Sullivan, John Lankford, Benjamin Sullivan, Emily Sullivan; great-granddaughter, Riley Yeackle; his beloved sister, Lynda Conner and husband "Wink". Funeral arrangements are being made through Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home at 5000 46A, Lake Mary, FL. Visitation will be Friday, June 17 from 4pm-6pm at First Baptist Church of Sweetwater, 3800 Wekiva Springs Rd., Longwood, where he was a charter member and deacon, with the memorial service beginning at 6pm and a reception immediately following. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 18 at 9am at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Lake Mary. A memorial donation may be made to Liberty Counsel at www.LC.org in lieu of flowers. The legacy John leaves behind will be his great love of family, and his tender devotion to his beloved wife, Jane, which were both expressions of his faith in God and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Baldwin - Fairchild Funeral Homes and Cemeteries, Oaklawn Chapel, 5000 CR 46A Sanford, Florida 32773 407-322-4263 in charge of the arrangements.
