Kenneth S. Shappell Notice
93, of Village On The Green, Longwood, Fla., formerly of Schuylkill Haven, PA., passed away on May 14, in Florida Hospital, Altamonte Springs. He was born on September 21, 1924 in Pottsville, a son of the late Daniel E. and Emma Marberger Shappell. He was married to the late Fern Wenrich Shappell for 58 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School and also received a bachelor's degree from Penn State University. He began working as an apprentice at the Textile Machine Works in Reading, eventually becoming the Purchasing Agent. After 22 years, he relocated to work in Sales for the Hitchiner Manufacturing Company, Milford, N.H., until retirement. He was drafted into the Army during World War II, playing in the Army Band before being sent to Germany. He was a member of the Wekiva Presbyterian Church, Longwood. He was a member of the Chandler Lodge 227, F&AM of PA. He also enjoyed serving in various capacities on many committees at V.O.T.G. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Sterling Daniel Shappell and a nephew, Charles Kenneth Shappell Jr. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Claire Wenrich Rutter, Orwigsburg, and Mary Sorenson Wenrich, Willow Street, PA, nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, June 14 in the Longwood Room at Village On The Green. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wekiva Presbyterian Church, 211 Wekiva Springs Lane, Longwood, Fl 32779. Arrangements are being held by Baldwin Fairchild West Altamonte Chapel.
