Miles Chapline McDonnell Notice
McDonnell, Miles Chapline (Chappy) passed away August 3rd, with his family by his side. Chappy was Born Feb 7, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan where he graduated from Bloomfield high in 1948. While attending Rollins College, Chappy married and joined the Air Force where he flew 101 missions over Korea in a F-84G Thunderjet. In 1955 Chappy graduated from Rollins College where he was the lead in many plays at the Annie Russell theater. Chappy completed his education at Stetson University in St. Petersburg where he earned his law degree. Graduating first in his class, Chappy gave the inauguration speech in Tallahassee for the class of 1959 addressing the Supreme Court of the State of Florida. The family moved back to Winter Park where he began his law career. Chappy's first love was the piano and entertaining. In the 1960's, he opened his first restaurant Chappy's Lookout in Fern Park. In the mid 70's, 80's and 90's he owned two other restaurants and a pub. After selling his last pub in Casselberry in 98', he played locally in various restaurants until he fully retired. His final two years were spent with his military peers at Emery Bennett Veterans Nursing home in Daytona Beach. Chappy is survived by siblings Kay and Tom, children Peggy, Miles Jr., Patrick, Michael and Timothy. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Chappy loved life and lived it to the fullest on his own terms. His quick wit and humor will be truly missed by all! Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to Homeless Veterans, NCHV.org.
