Shirley Madeline Hurlbert Emery, 88, passed into eternity at Putnam Community Medical Center on May 7, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Jacksonville, FL on April 23, 1930, Shirley lived most of her life in Winter Park, FL coming from West Palm Beach. The last 10 years she lived with her daughter in Florahome, FL. Shirley will always be remembered for her intelligence, sharp wit, and putting others before herself with her generous spirit and abiding faith in Christ. She graduated from Orlando High School in 1948 and FSU in 1952 with a BS in Education where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She later received a Master's Degree from Rollins College in School Administration. She retired in 1973 from the Seminole County School System where she was Assistant Principal at Eastbrook Elementary. She then answered her calling to work as the Director of Christian Education at All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park, FL where she was a member. She is preceeded in death by her husband of 46 years, Theodore E. Emery, Jr. her sister Betty Albright and her parents Owen and Jewell Hurlbert, Jr. Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" (Gerald) Boyd, Florahome, FL; Eleanor (Rick) Staehler, Jonesborough, TN; Jewell "Julie" (Ken) Kelly, Orlando, FL. Five Grand Children, Jack (Kim) Layer, Branford, FL; Jennifer Joyce, Sanford, FL; Amy (David) Krazeise, Orange City, FL; Twins Robert Wassum, IV and Matthew Wassum, Oviedo, FL; and twin Great Grand Daughters Abigail and Amelia Krazeise, Orange City, FL. A memorial celebration is planned to honor her memory for later this summer.
