James "Jim" L. Gass of Saginaw, passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at his winter home in Auburndale, Fla., age 74 years.
Jim was born on Nov. 20, 1946 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Loren A. and Florence (Bingaman) Gass.
Jim graduated from Albia Community High School, Centerville Community College with an associate's degree, Saginaw Valley State University with a bachelor's degree, University of Wisconsin with a graduate degree and finally University of Oklahoma with an advanced degree.
He honorably served in the Army Specialist Reserve as staff sergeant.
Jim was employed as vice president of Bankers Trust Company in Des Moines, Iowa; 1st vice president of Commercial Bank in Alma; executive vice president of North Bank in Hale; president of First Central Mortgage Corporation in Saginaw; and executive vice president of Huron Community Bank in East Tawas, where he retired.
Jim was an avid reader and loved golfing and spending time with friends. He also loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
Jim was married to his beloved wife, Diania (Davenport) Gass for 37 years – she survives him.
Surviving besides his wife, Diania; are children, Vicki Barnett, Raymond (Misty) Atwood, Rob (Michele) Atwood and Renee (Tim) Clarey; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wanda (Art) Reinert; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Anita) Davenport and Dan (Ruthann) Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Donna; and brother, Edward.
Jim was cremated according to his wishes in Auburndale, Fla. Memorial will be sometime in June where Jim will be laid to rest at Vassar Riverside Cemetery.
