Raymond E. Humphrey, age 87, of Lapeer, passed away on March 19, 2021, in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1933, in Hale. Raymond enjoyed playing baseball as a young man and was almost considered to play in the minor leagues, but his lack of hearing made it hard for him to pursue that career. Raymond was one of the first patients to have received cochlear implants to aid in his hearing impairment.
Raymond went on to work as a barber in Hale for many years where he enjoyed the many conversations and friendships made with his patrons. He would then go on to pursue a career as a tool and die maker for Dupont in Lapeer. In his free time he enjoyed his time spent in the back shed woodworking and building duck decoys.
He loved hunting, fishing, golf, photography and was an avid bowler. He is remembered by is willingness to always lend a helping hand to those that needed it and for his love for his family.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Humphrey; sons, Steven (Becki) Humphrey and Rodney (Joy) Humphrey; his grandchildren, Mandy, Tanner, Aaron, Corey, Shannon Dean, Bradley and Brandon; great grandchildren, Allie, Wade, Jackson, Alexa and Cameron; and sister-in-law, Margaret Humphrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lillian; stillborn son, Robert; and brother, Dale.
