Leonne, From the days we met in Hudson Quebec, Jake was smitten by you and remained smitten and very happy. From Sea Cadet Camp Choisy it was a short trip into Hudson. Jake & I met when I was 13 in Montreal at a naval ceremony when our two Sea Cadet Corps were involved. We served at Sea Cadet Camp for 5 years on staff. Jake's leadership and sailing skills were honed very sharp over those years with the final camp at Camp Princess Alice in Georgin Bay, Ont. Jake was nominated the most outstanding Sea Cadet in Canada & was awarded at 17 a trip to Australia with the Canadian Navy. His whaler crew won the sailing regatta on that trip also. He was very proud of his opportunity to attend Royal Military College. We hosted Jake in the preparations of the Calgary 88 Olympics with his involvement of the National Sport & Recreation Center. Our sincere condolences and warmest wishes to all his family & may God provide grace & comfort. Jake will remain a vivid memory forever in my mind.

My deepest sympathies to Leonne and family. I met Jake for the first time at the HMCS BYTOWN when I was the Entertainment officer. Jake was a great supporter of the mess, so I saw him on many occasions. He always had a kind word, friendly advice and was always supportive of my efforts. Jake made me feel welcome in the mess. One of my fondest memories of Jake was one Christmas Family Supper when Jake, Leonne, the kids and grandkids were in attendance – the Freill family pulled up their chairs to sit front of the entertainment – surrounded by his family, Jake certainly looked happy. RIP Jake.

My condolences to the family. I first met Jake on a bus in Quebec City (~1973)while returning home from college. I sat beside the uniformed commander. We chatted in French for about 40 minutes. He told me nice and encouraging stories about the Navy with the result that I joined. Three years later I was serving as OOW in IROQUOIS, my first operational ship under his command. Thanks Jake for your excellent recruiting effort - I just retired.

Dear Leonne,
Family of Jake, Grandchildren and
Great Grandchildren,

You all deserve a Candle.
Jake deserves more than a Candle.
A Candle of Courage,
A Candle of Love,
A Candle of Dedication and A Candle of Bravery.

He was a very courageous and loving man to all of whom knew him.
No one could ask for a better generous human being.

Even though in pain and suffering, Jake offered to drive us at the Airport on Tuesday, 26 February 2013 for Bob's brother funeral in Calgary. But, he insisted to drive us and as he said it: “What else can I do at home? I do not want to sit around and vegetate. I want to keep busy”. And added: “I'm fine, and I'm okay. Let's go”. That was Jake.

He was very proud of his Family and Children.
He once invited us, a last minute call to meet all of his children during a football game. It was a great event and a wonderful evening of fun meeting all of this children and spouses.

We will miss you Jake.
We will miss our parties, events and dinners together.

Jake will always stay in our mind and memories.

Rest In Peace, Dear Friend.
