At the age of 68, surrounded by his family and friends, Robert passed away in his home on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Best friend and beloved husband of 46 years to JoAnne (nee Lavigne) and loving father to Natalie (Alastair) and Steve (Keri). Proud "Poppy" to Cayla, Chelsea, MacKenzie, Charlotte and Jack; predeceased by his parents Viola and Earl Stapledon as well as his brother John and nephew Tommy; beloved brother to Gary, William, Ernie, Diane and Heather. Robert is remembered not only for a long and marked professional career but more importantly, for the profound and lasting impact he has had on his family and his friends. For those who were blessed to have known him, he will be remembered as a loyal friend, a trusted confidant, a mentor, a leader, a gifted problem solver, and a kind and loving brother, uncle, father, father-in-law, grandfather and husband. He truly was a unique person with an unparallelled sense of humour. "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." – Helen Keller. Please join us to share memories and to celebrate his life on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Pinecrest Reception Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, followed by a private gathering at the Central Bierhaus in Kanata. On Robert's behalf, the family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Karen and Bill Juneau, Lorne Finley, Jennifer and Abigail of Saint Elizabeth Health Care, as well as Dr. Colby Burns for their support, kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert's memory to the Alzheimer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice. I'm so saddened to learn of this heartbreaking news in August of 2025 of Robert's passing 10 years ago. Robert provided me with my first full-time job experience in the Planning and Design Department at CMHC in Ottawa right after I graduated college. My 4+ years at CMHC under Robert's leadership paved the way for what has turned out to be a fruitful and rewarding career in the industry that has taken me half way around the world and back. Robert was a wonderful man, and was so easy to talk to for someone like me who had no experience at all. Thank you, Robert, for giving me a chance! I'm sure you're in a place where there will be no more death, or mourning, or crying, or pain. Rest in Peace!

I had a dream of Bobby last night.He was in a beautiful apartment with uncle Ron and Aunt Claire which had a huge window that overlooked a beautiful country field that went on forever.They were all so happy together. Bonnie.xoxo

Dear Joanne, Steve and Natalie,
I have no words that can fully describe your loss and sadness. Robert was an incredible source of inspiration to me as he influenced me in my career and passion for architecture. He had so many insights into the industry and how architecture and design should act as an extension of our passion to be connected as family and community. He had a beautiful way of looking at the world, often with dry wit and a infectious laugh. As he whistled and sang while working on the house and barn, it occurred to me the joy he had could not be contained and it resulted in him calling out a tune, an extension of his kind and beautiful disposition. I hope as time heals your hearts, his memory and legacy left by his grand kids will be comforting. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to you. I will be forever in his debt as he was a great mentor and friend to me.

Dear Poppy,
I love you. I am going to miss you so much. So will all our family. I just hope that you are really comfortable now and hope you will never be in pain again. I want you to know that never, for one second, will we forget you. I will always remember the fun we had together.
