My condolences to all the family at the passing of this remarkable man.
My mind goes back 45 years to when Cathy was a student in my grade 9 English class at Almonte High School. That's how I first met the Geuer family. What a wonderful legacy YOU are!

Els and family - It has been many years since I saw you all, but my memories of visits to your home when I was young, and many happy meetings thereafter, remain vivid. Juan was one-of-a-kind, a man with a tremendous gift for connecting with people and with the world around him. And he was so, so lucky to have a warm and vibrant family that fueled his joy each and every day. My thoughts are with you. God bless.

What an extraordinary man. I loved having tea with Juan and Els. Juan and I often disagreed on the detail of intellectual discussions - but who cared? What a heart! What a love for life!

Dear Els and family,
I was very sorry to hear the sad news. We in the arts community will remember his vision and his desire to communicate his wonder about the natural world through his art. I feel privileged to have known him, and will long remember my visit to his last, ambitious show at the Textile Museum in Almonte. His creative energy was rarely matched and was a true source of inspiration.
Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult time of your loss.

Dear Else and family,
As sad as I am to hear of Juan's passing, I am privileged to have known him, if only so slightly. He has left so much for those he has touched, including his faith, his intellect, his talent and his wit.
Condolences.

I am saddened to hear this news.
Juan was and is an inspiration to all those who knew him in the art world. Thoughtful, imaginative, mischievous, curious joyful and so alive.
He lives on through you, his family, and through all he and his work touched.
He would want us to smile.

Dear Geuer Family: You have our heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your father. I remember how much he awed me - even as a young child I found him to be profound. I hope the memories of good times will soon replace the pain of losing such a great man.

Dear Else,
In his last email to us on March 3rd Juan wrote "kreuzfidel" into the headline, which which is a funny expression of "great" in respect to his health and mood. He was full of plans and projects. Now he is gone. Even at the age of 92 it seems too early.
He was a great friend to us and we will never forget the many hours of talks about "Gott und die Welt". We learnt so much from him. Else, we are with you and your family in our thoughts these days.

Dear Els, Caterina, Wendy, Fred, Monica, Sunniva, Agnes and Steven and all your children:
Scott and I were so sad to find that Juan is no longer with us.
We will miss him always and will never forget him. I was introduced to your family when I was 21 years old(38 years ago). I will never forget the impact it had on my life. When I said I wanted to be adopted by his family, Juan replied "that would be great, I believe in expanded families". Ever since, I have always felt a special kinship to your family even when far way.
Juan had such a sense of humour and said I was a kook like himself and made me laugh so much on my last visit last summer when we went to the Tea Room in Almonte. He had such a positive outlook on life and always encouraged me to be me.
Juan will always be with us because he made such an important mark in our world and I will miss his eyebrows which I thought birds would have loved to nest in.
With all my love and my sincerest sympathy in your time of grief.

Dear Els and family,
Juan was the most supportive and inspiring mentor a young artist could ever have the privilege of knowing.
He excitedly and generously shared his passion and wonderment for the natural world. He taught that our natural surroundings could be translated into most exciting artistic expression as long as we listened to it.
Juan recently sent me a very inspiring email that he finished off with this:
"To make a long story short; IT DOES NOT MATTER what course you take as long as you remain who YOU are.
Think for your self and study in small doses so that you can digest what you learned and make it truly your own.
Good Luck and lots of love from an ancient Juan and a lovely Els"
I will always carry his wise words with me.
Thinking of the lovely times spent in the garden.
