Kristal Giesebrecht Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 3 to Jul. 4, 2010.
GIESEBRECHT, MCpl Kristal Member of 1 Canadian Field Hospital, CFB Petawawa Tragically on her second tour in Afghanistan on Saturday, 26 June, 2010. Master Corporal Kristal Lee Anne Giesebrecht (nee Brant) of Petawawa, dearly loved wife, best friend and soulmate of Matt Giesebrecht. Loving stepmother and precious friend to Jonathan. Cherished daughter of Angela Mercer (Bill), Chatham; and Daniel Brant (Linda), Wallaceburg. Devoted sister to Shannon Shepley, Chatham and Dan Brant, Wallaceburg; loving Auntie to Katelyn, Sara and Melissa. Treasured daughter-in-law of Don and Sandy Giesebrecht, Petawawa; and much loved sister-in-law of Sarah Lamothe (Jason), Oshawa. Kristal was a heavenly blessing to everyone she met. She was the truest of friends, able to raise the spirits of all in her presence with her angelic smile and unquenchable enthusiasm for life. Kristal enjoyed any competition and whether it was a marathon, a simple game of scrabble with friends or a cash game of poker with a Commanding Officer, she was always playing to win and would let you know when she had. She appreciated the finer things in life. Proudly decorating her home, old photos of precious moments, sitting around a campfire, exploratory walks on a warm beach somewhere far away, caressing massages and butterfly kisses were just a few of her favourite things. But she also loved to celebrate. She brought something very special to every gathering. A party was never a party until Kristal had arrived and not long after would proclaim, as only she could, that it was time for "SHOOTERS!" Kristal was a healer. Whether it was wounds of the heart or wounds of the flesh, she always chose to place the well-being of others ahead of her own. She was as capable of helping those in need with her gentle touch and caring words as she was with her experience and professional medical skills earned as a Medical Technician with 1 Canadian Field Hospital in CFB Petawawa. Kristal was proud to serve her country and while she cherished all of her contributions and accomplishments as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, they could never compare to her love and devotion for her friends and family; or ours for her. Kristal was simply everything to us, our living soul and with her passing we are left searching for a part of us that can never be replaced. Friend, Auntie, Step-mother, Sister, Daughter, Wife and Soulmate... your spirit will live on in us forever. You will never be forgotten. Visitation at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at CFB Petawawa Y101 (1 RCR Building), Petawawa, Ontario on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Calvin United/First Presbyterian Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) or the Children's Health Foundation (London, Ontario) would be appreciated. For the Families, loved ones, friends of or Fallen This Christmas 2010

Looking back, on childhood’s days
When wonder set the sails
And all imagined could come to life
Within thoughts, dreams as they played
When Santa rode a sleigh one eve
In every coming year
And magic taught sweet dreams to fly
To rooftops every where
Now sitting wishing Christmas Eve
Looking off into the night
Pleading for a shooting star
Enhance this wish with all their might
A wish for just a Christmas hug
From a soldier no longer here
No longer in our earthly world
Held close now, within near
The hearts of those who’ve felt such pain
At the loss of a hero’s life
A hero who stepped forth for all
Bring this hero close this night
As tears once more roll down a cheek
Another endless, sleepless night
Let our Lord brush close a warming hug
Of your loved one, bring them near
A gentle breeze, fond memories’ bring
To hold them ever dear

Wishing the magic of Christmas could bring the smiles, the hugs and the warmth of your loved one, into your home for Christmas. Ever in our hearts and always remembered. May our Lord bless you this Christmas and throughout the coming year.

Thinking of all those who have given so much; those who have paid the Ultimate Sacrifice, our Veterans, our serving soldiers, their families, loved ones and friends at this special time of Remembrance, 2010. We Do Remember.

They crawled on their bellies slowly
In the dirt, the dust, the slime,
Ran onto beaches, lived in fear, a moment out of time.
A time that changed a world in need
A time that set apart
Times that held a world so close, near and dear to every heart
The gas they sent, it took its toll
Many others held that ground
And challenged over and over again
Until freedom’s world was found
Liberated nations cheered delight
A world was aimed anew
But for so many who had lost a life
The tears fell hard and true
They stepped forth for their Nation
They stepped forth for a world to be
They stepped forth to chase the evil back
Keep their families safe and free
Through life times of years gone by
Up to this present day
A brethren strong with so much might
Stepped forth for you and me
We owe so much to those who’ve walked
In fear yet oh so strong
So brave in every step they took
So many now are gone
They have challenged life itself each day
And stood for what was right
They did it with their heart and soul
And stood with all their might
Lord love the souls of these so brave
And cherish duty’s call
For they gave all for a better world
On behalf of one and all.
At this time of Remembrance
Into our hearts we welcome those
Who have walked this solemn journey forth
For those who needed a friend along
We recall their families, loved ones, friends,
For so many have paid the price
Of freedom, or for a world in peace
Or to fight terror in another place
Oh Lord we hold their honour high
Our tears have washed the path
For those who take their torch to stand
As to them the torch is passed
Forever near we promise
We will honour these hearts so brave
And stand nearby their families, friends
For the sacrifice they gave

In respect of the Loss of Two Caring Canadian Medics, Master Corporal Kristal Giesebrecht and Private Andrew Miller, so strong in heart, so brave in spirit, so compassionate in effort, so truly our Canadian Heroes

My heart is filled with sadness at this loss of a precious two
Who’ve travelled across the sands of time
Such compassion in what they do
To save the lives of others while the risk to theirs was lent
One tragic sad and sorrowful day to our lord their souls are sent
Riding on the prayers of those whose hearts their lives have touched
Carried in the thoughts recalled, of love throughout their lives
Carried on the waves of tears of a nation standing near
As they travel a hero’s highway home in a land they held so dear
For those who watched them become these hearts
That shared forth their saving gift
To help their wounded brethren or anyone in need
Our medics plied their special gift and place themselves between
The dangers of their daily task to help all those in need
Their gift so precious in a dangerous land of a country in such turmoil
To lift, to help its people stand or just lift them to a knee
That they may take their rightful place in a better world for all to see
Oh lord we pray the pain will ease for their families held so dear
For their friends and fellow soldier’s loss
Lord please lend your comfort’s hand
To lift, to help them endure, in a far off distant land
The empty helpless feelings brought by the loss of one so near
Please share with them fond memories of these ones they held so dear
Reach out and touch them with the warmth of their fond memories shared
Please let them know their friends are near
To those hearts that needs them so
For they will ever be so near in those hearts that hold them close

Canada my heart aches for these; Two Medics, who have given beyond life’s special gift, for they have given all, for those to whom their compassion lent, on behalf of their country’s call.

Master Corporal Kristal Giesebrecht and Private Andrew Miller, your lives, your compassion, your caring, have touched the heart of a nation. Though we knew you not, our prayers reach out for you, your loved ones, friends, and fellow soldiers. We do, so dearly, thank you and your loved ones for your efforts towards making our world a better place.

My name is Darlene MacAulay, my daughter Kim, who is also a combat medic and is in Afghanistan now, was a friend and co-worker with Kristal and trained with her over the past 6 months. I didn't know Kristal but as Kim said to me different times, "Mom if you knew her for longer than 10 minutes you would love her". A donation has been made to CHEO in her memory. God Bless you all now and in the days and months ahead.
