For many years,Richard (I never called him Dick) and I shared a very special (nonsexual) relationship and I miss him very much. I was very happy when he found his true love with Carrie but was sad it was so short lived.
Rest in peace, Richard, you were truly a great presence in my life.
Affectionately, Carole

I was a student at St.Patrick's Academy on Alta Vista Drive in 1950 and Dick Maloney was one of my classmates, even then he used to play and sing at the piano and we would gather around and sing along. after graduation we lost tract of each other, around 1960 he visited me at my home in Manhattan. Since that time we lost tract of each other. I had no idea of his success as an entertainment celebrity until I came across in the web concerning his untimely death. I want to express my sincere condolences to very dear friend of mine of so many years ago.

My sympathies go to the entire Maloney family for their loss and hope they will come out of this sad experience with sparkling memories. I liked his Saturday Date Show as a teenager, his Sunday morning show and the romantic songs he sang at the Villa Lucia. I especially liked his CFMO afternoon radio show with his gentle voice and quiet way of informing the audience of special events or life anecdotes. He was a true companion to all his audience, a calming voice in the rush of everyday stresses of life so unlike the brash, ego feeding style and silly stories and so called jokes that we hear from announcers on easy listening radio show nowadays.
He was a truly classy man who has touched the lives of many. What an incredible gift to leave behind. I shall miss him.

I will never forget the many joyous hours listening to "Sentimental Journey". Dick's tragic fall, his courageous fight and his determined return to the Sunday morning program. Most of all, I loved the beautiful song he wrote - "So Little Time" . . Godspeed Dick.

This is so very sad. I remember the days of "Saturday Date" when I was a little girl with a big crush on the host. I saw Dick Maloney perform in 1995 and his voice was velvety smooth, absolutely stellar. To Mr. Maloney's wife, Carrie, and to the rest of his family and friends, I'm sending my deepest condolences. I'm so very sorry for your loss. God bless.

We grew up in the area of The Former CJOH Studio.
I remember watching Saturday Date as a very young child..in the early 1960's.
As an adult I also listened and learned to appreciate the Sunday Sentimental Journey Broadcast.
It helped me dream and imagine of what music was about during my parents earlier years. My personal favourite has always been Perry Como...and I was always so happy when I would hear one of his songs.
Dick Maloney gave us all something very special every Sunday.
Our heartfelt condolences to the dear family, friends and co-workers...of this very special Ottawa Icon.
Mr Dick Maloney...You will be truly missed...

Dear Maloney Family:
I wish to express my sincere con. dolences on the passing of your dad and granddad. I was a life-long resident of Ottawa until 2009 when I moved to Calgary. I am in your dad's age range and listened and danced to his wonderful voice. It was on my birthday that he sustained his unfortunate accident and I was devastated. My condolences go out to Dick Maloney's family, friends and fans. I listened to him and his late colleague Hal Botham do their respective "Sentimental Journey" shows when I lived in Ottawa during the mid-'90s. I also liked hearing Maloney sing and introduce his own compositions. He has left behind a legacy for Ottawa and all of Canada. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone at this time.

Dear Carrie, Richard, Patti, Sean and Linda ~ and families ~
We hope Dick's passing was peaceful and that you will all find your own special way to honour his memory and the very many so-special ways he touched our lives.
We were blessed to work with Dick to help him produce his last several recordings and contributions to the films that included his music ~ and to promote his recordings to the hundreds of radio stations who helped to share his magical voice and delivery with their audiences ... We will miss Dick with true sadness and will remember him with great laughter and happiness.
You lit up Dick's life Carrie. We are so thankful that you shared so many wonderful experiences together.
We are sending you all of our love ~
To the next journey ~

As a long-time broadcaster with many stations (including CFMO and CFRA back in the 70's) and with the CRTC for 30 years, I offer my compassion and prayers for the family. It was just last year that I had the chance to talk with Terry KIelty (who passed away recently), about Dick. I also spent some time recently with Ron Purvis -another past broadcaster of CFMO and we both talked about Dick's adventures and great skills in the broadcasting arena. We will miss his soft and dedicatory attitude over the airwaves. He is now on the other side - with so many of his friends and listeners - where they will enjoy his many talents. We look forward to seeing him again....

I got to Dick in the 70s when he was with CKOY. Then he joined CFMO, which was a better place for him. I used to go to wherever he was playing Ottawa and sit and listen to him. We had some great conversations. Unforunately we lost touch. I never got to meet Carrie but she sounded just the person for him. Dick was a warm, kind person. Loved his music and sense of humour. He's joined a great choir in heaven with the likes of Frank and Bing. There will never be another entertainer like Dick.

To Carrie and Family.
I met you, Carrie, and Dick, a few years ago when we were all having lunch at Canal Ritz.
I first knew Dick when we were both 19 years old, we sang together, along with my sister Marion, and Dick and I became good friends. We no longer live in Ottawa, but when we did I went to many of his shows through the years and listened to him on the radio. He will be missed by many, and thank goodness his music will continue on for us in his recordings.
God Bless and Comfort you all.

My condolences to the Maloney family - including his brother, Dr. Justin Maloney at the General, who was instrumental in starting the 911 and paramedic programs. Dick was a strong supporter of both, so you might say it was a family project. I remember on the old CFMO of the 1980s (93.9, now BOB-FM), Dick would close out the Friday afternoon show just before 5:30 with the first verse of his song "Late Night Bar", then announce which late night bar he was singing at. The Jewel 98.5 may be considered CFMO's modern-day successor.
