I met Jacques at the CANEUS conference in Montreal in 2011. I was highly impressed with his technical capabilities, but I was much more impressed by his humanity. The world is poorer without him.

He was very special to me as he welcomed me so kindly to the Board of Governors of Concordia University last year. We often sat next to each other at Board meetings and shared ideas (and laughs), as well as a refreshment (or two) afterwards. I will cherish those memories of him. He was a humble man with a .generous spirit, one that his families are no doubt certainly proud. Il nous manquera beaucoup.

My sincere condolences for the Lyrette family. I had the great privilege of working with Jacques when he was at CRC and then NRC. Everyone new that Jacques was dynamic in fact we used to refer to him as the "cowboy" for his disregard for rules that were there just for the sake of having rules. But more importantly Jaques was know for being a wondful mentor to many with an open door and open mind. He made us all better for knowing and working with him. He will be missed.

Gino.

While Jacques was a vice president at the National Research Council his responsibilities included the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics. As Director General of that institute I found Jacques a congenial and supportive supervisor. It was a pleasure to work with Jacques for the advancement of Canadian astrophysics.

My deepest sympathy to the Lyrette family on their loss, and ours. I had the honour of working with Jacques as the chair of the Long Range Planning Panel for Astronomy and Astrophysics. His warmth, openness, intelligence, and support were deeply appreciated. He encouraged us to build an ambitious vision for our field and played a key role in helping it see the light of day. He was a compassionate leader and human being. He will be sorely missed.

Jacques was a nice man. You could talk to him and he'd listen, and when he spoke you saw that he had no pretensions. He was quick to understand value when he saw it in the people and the teams under him.

Jacques had profoundly positive impacts during his NRC years, and was an inspirational person with whom to work. He played key roles in encouraging and enabling the Canadian astronomical community to develop its first Long Range Plan for Astronomy and Astrophysics, which became the road map for our field. I valued his guidance and friendship very much, and extend my sincere condolences to the Lyrette family.

I am speechless! In my 10 years with ADGA I came to respect his ability to lead but still keep his team in focus, and he always seemed to be able to muster a quiet smile when working through the difficult times.
