Dora Bean Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 29, 2006.
BEAN, Dora Susan Lorain Died peacefully in Guelph on May 27, 2006 at the age of 91. She is the wife of the late Air Vice Marshal Wilfrid W. Bean and the mother of Peter (Anthea) of Ottawa, Audrey (John Knowles) of Montreal, Frances (Bill Preston) of Saranac Lake, NY, grandmother to David and Jeffrey, sons of Peter Bean, and great-grandmother to Ayden, daughter of David. Lorain was the daughter of the late Seymour Creighton Baker and Mildred Farish Baker of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and the sister of the late Victor Farish Baker and G.W. Courtland Baker. She is survived by her brother Charles Creighton Baker of La Jolla, California. Born and raised in Yarmouth, Lorain Baker graduated from Miss Wheelock's Normal School in Boston and taught school in Pinehurst, NC before marrying Wilfrid Bean in 1941. Throughout her life, she was a vital presence in the community, always enthusiastically supporting those around her and bringing her special Maritime warmth and zest to all she did. The family extends warm thanks to the staff of Robertson Brown Health Services, the staff of the Village at Riverside Glen, to private caregivers, and to Andrew Hall, all of whom made Lorain Bean's recent years so much easier. Funeral services will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich St., at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, followed by a reception in Mitchell Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George's Anglican Church (Guelph) or to a favourite charity.

Dear Peter

My sincere condolescences. It is hard to lose your Mom and to now be "an orphan" with both parents gone. We "move to the front of the train". Your Mom was wonderful--her own person--and she raised great kids. Hang on to the good memories. I am sure there are many

love

Peggy
