Gerald "Gerry" John Schwark, 83, of Midland, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Ray Township, son of Irvin H. and Clara A. (Schoof) Schwark. He graduated as president of the class from Mt. Clemens High School in 1952 and attended Michigan Technological University, graduating in 1956 with a degree in chemical engineering. On Sept. 29, 1956, he married Sylvia D. Bellman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Clemens. Gerry was employed at The Dow Chemical Co. for nearly 30 years while also serving early in his career as a lieutenant in the U.S.A.F. Reserves. In addition, he earned an MBA from Central Michigan University. Following retirement from The Dow Chemical Co., he obtained a realtor's license and worked in Midland for Ayre/Rhinehart Realtors.

Gerry was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was on the visitor follow-up team and participated in LifeLight Bible study. He also enjoyed monthly activities with the Kiwassee Kiwanis Club. Gerry loved spending summers at the family cottage on South Manistique Lake in the Upper Peninsula where he taught his daughters and grandsons how to fish. He was also a passionate sports fan, rooting for all Michigan sports teams, especially the Detroit Tigers.

Surviving besides Sylvia, his wife of 61 years, are his daughters, Joanne (Andrew Bell) of Lakewood, Ohio and Martha of Jackson; grandsons, Ian and Evan Bell of Lakewood, Ohio; brother, Alton Schwark; and sister-in-law, Doris Schwark. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd Schwark; and sisters, Irma Bonnett and Violet Harm.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 505 E. Carpenter St., with burial in Midland Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., on Thursday from 3-6 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
