Lloyd Robert Smith, 89, of Midland, died Saturday evening, Dec. 22, 2012, at the MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Lake Linden, the son of Frank G. and Grethe (Johnson) Smith.

Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On Dec. 23, 1951, he married Marilyn L. Dominick in Royal Oak.

Lloyd earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and his master's degree from Central Michigan University. He retired from The Dow Chemical Co. in 1985 as manager of computer information services. Lloyd was a long time member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a member of the Kiwanis.

He is survived by his children, Sidni (Smith) and her husband Ronald Tacia of Ossineke, Mark (Sue) Smith of Wausau, Wis., Heidi (Smith) Varner, Ingrid (Smith) Farrell of Midland and Kurt Smith of Midland; grandchildren, Sara Smith, Ben Smith, Jennifer Varner, Katie (Casey) Quinlan, Trish Varner, Hilary Farrell, Laura Farrell, Georgia Farrell, Petre Smith, Alyssa Raab, Mischa Smith; great-grandson, Malachi Raab; and his brother, Morgan (Jacqueline) Smith of Silver Spring, Md. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, on Aug. 14, 1985.

Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 405 N. Saginaw Rd., The Rev. Rob Skirving officiating. As Lloyd's family will greet friends after the service at church, there will be no visitation prior to services.
