Wendell Wayne Meyer, age 76, of Midland, died early Friday morning Feb. 10, 2012 at MidMichigan Stratford Village. The son of the late Herman Wayne and Beulah May (Schroll) was born in North Manchester, Ind. on March 22, 1935. Wendell graduated from Chester High School and then completed an undergraduate chemistry degree from Manchester College. A Ph.D in organic chemistry was earned at Indiana University in 1961. Wendell joined The Dow Chemical Co. as a research chemist where he worked until his retirement in 1994. A major focus for Wendell was the Kiwassee Kiwanis Club where he held many offices. He also served as state Kiwanis lieutenant governor and for many years as a trustee for the state Kiwanis Foundation. Wendell enjoyed many years of working with his investment club, the Financial Finks and certainly had a grand time with his bowling team, the AHOWS, over the years.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Barbara Carlile, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1961 in Mentone Ind., son Steve Meyer of Midland, daughter Jennifer Meyer of Holland, Mich., and brother Phil Meyer of Sparta N.J. In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his sister, Edythe King.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Feb. 17, 2012 at Memorial Presbyterian Church. Rev. Wallace H. Mayton III will officiate. Interment will be in Midland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 4210 N. Saginaw Rd on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
