Lory A. VOLK Obituary
Lory A. Volk passed away on Monday April 30, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 2, 1957, daughter of the late Donna S. Armstrong and Dan Armstrong. Lory was a graduate of Forest Hill High School and the University of Florida and the proud wife of John K. Volk. She truly was a local girl where she passionately and fiercely pursued her love of architecture, historic preservation especially in the Town of Palm Beach and West Palm Beach - and appreciation for the wisdom of the ages. One of her favorite sayings was "you should always look to the past to make good decisions before moving forward". Lory was a stalwart and outspoken advocate for preserving the history and archives of her late father-in-law, noted Palm Beach architect John L. Volk. She co-authored the book John L. Volk Palm Beach Architect with her late mother-in-law and was the Chair of the John L. Volk Foundation with the assistance of William Waters. Lory was a true lover of Florida the history, the natural beauty, the environment and the preservation of what makes Florida a treasure to so many. When she took up a cause, there were no compromises with her on what was right, and she was relentless in her fight. Lory was a generous and thoughtful person and a true friend to many. She could literally make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" in all she did be it a party, an appropriate gift, her design sense, a delicious meal or anything to which she set her mind. She had just the right touch and a gift to make something more elegant and festive and was always happy to help her friends. She volunteered for many organizations in the community over her lifetime and was a dependable weekly volunteer for over 30 years with Noreen McKeen (through the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-By-The-Sea) and loved her four legged fur babies. Lory was predeceased by her mother, Donna Armstrong, father Dan Armstrong, father-in-law John L. Volk and mother-in-law Jane K. Volk. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 31 years John K. Volk, her brothers Kent, Neil, Eric, beloved aunt Patricia Cayce, and cousins Staley and Grady and their families. She is survived by her husband, John K. Volk. At Lory's request, there will be no service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to honor her by donating to AND to carry her torch forward in advocating for the causes she held so dear. Bon Voyage Sweet Child of Florida.
