FIEVE, Ronald Robert Psychiatrist Dr. Ronald Robert Fieve "the Lithium Miracle Doctor" who pioneered the use of lithium in the treatment of manic depression died peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in his home in Palm Beach, FL. He was 87 years old. Dr. Fieve was born on March 5, 1930 and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1955. He authored many scientific publications including four books, "Moodswing", "Bipolar II", "Prozac" and "Bipolar Breakthrough" which provided new hope for millions of people suffering from depression and manic depression (bipolar disorder). Dr. Fieve was a distinguished Professor Emeritus in Psychiatry for New York Presbyterian Hospital and Founder of the Foundation for Mood Disorders, Fieve Depression Center and Fieve Clinical Services. He is survived by his wife Katia whom he married in 1963; two daughters Lara Fieve-Portela and Vanessa Fieve Willett and his four grandchildren Katia (18), Andrew (14), Emily (14) and Jack (13). Memorial service to be held in New York City in early spring. Date TBD. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in his memory.
