Family-Placed Obituary

TED GRAY Ted Gray, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2011 in Delray Beach. He was born December 31,1924 in Detroit, MI. Ted's outstanding athleticism led him from Highland Park High School to the baseball diamond where he began his professional career in Winston Salem in 1942. When the War began, he proudly served 3 years in the U.S. Navy and upon completion of his military service he returned to his hometown. The Detroit Tigers grabbed him in 1946, putting him on the mound as their left-handed pitcher. In 1950 he pitched for the American League in the first-ever televised all star game. From baseball to the automotive industry to South Forida, he always was a presence. Ted is survived by his former wife, Doreen; their 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. His family would like to acknowledge the care and thoughtful consideration given by his caregivers at Harbour's Edge as well as that of his friend and driver. Very special, also, were his many friends with whom he shared walks, stories, and countless good times. A private memorial celebration of Ted's life is being planned for the near future. Those wishing to do so may remember Ted with a contribution to Hospice By The Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton, FL. 33486. Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, Delray Beach.
