I just read of Big Irv's passing and am sorry I could not make it to the funeral...I pass along my deepest condolences to the entire Shawe family, particularly Eric, Lawrence and Phillip who introduced me to Irvin, and Shirley.
My first initiation with Irvin was sitting in an office next to where Lawrence and his newly hired "sales associate" where discussing a home sale at a very loud, excited and exuberant pace.....a conversation that could have been heard 2 blocks away, let alone in the office next door.
When the conversation ended and this "new associate" left the room, I asked Lawrence where we recruited the hire.....He replied ...'That is my Father" and the rest is history.....during the next year and a half, I had the pleasure of being Irv's office mate, mailing address for Phillip, and most important the recipient of all Irv's philosophy of sales and outlook on the world.
Bordering on the outrageous at times, but always the consummate professional with the clients, Irv taught me great sales skills and also some invaluable shopping tips...as Irv was truly on of the worlds great shoppers. At first Irv was a bit intimidating to me, but once you got past the flamboyant exterior, you realized that he was a man with a huge heart and true love of his family....and a man who was very proud of his sons accomplishments. The anecdotes and stories are too numerous to tell, as I am sure anyone who spent time with him could attest to.
Rest in peace Irv, you did make your presence known during your time here and not everyone does....I know somewhere out there you are still closing a sale by feeding the ducks down by the lake with your prospective clients...Rest In Peace...Mark Brodi
