Mary Elizabeth (Best) LAMALIE Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Best Lamalie, resident of Stuart, FL, died July 6, 2018. She was born in Newport, RI, March 12, 1939, to Francis and Ruth Best. Mary was a graduate of St. Catherine Academy. She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Rhode Island, a Master of Science and a Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Ms. Lamalie was married to her husband in 1961 residing at Guantanamo Navy Base and Norfolk, VA. Upon her husband's discharge from the Navy, they moved to Newport, RI while her husband pursued his college degree. They became the proud parents of Ainslie Frances in 1973, while living in Australia. Mary taught at Guantanamo but the school was closed when the base was evacuated at the time of the "Cuban Missile Crisis". She went on to teach grades one-six in Ohio, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Australia and Florida, retiring from the Palm Beach County School District in 2004. The last ten years of her career in Palm Beach County she was in the Multicultural Education Department as an ESOL coordinator, and a compliance specialist. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth L. Lamalie and their daughter, Ainslie Lamalie. Memorial Donations in Mary's honor can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997 or the Alzehimer's Community Care, 800 North Point Parkway Suite 101B, West Palm Beach, FL 33407. Interment will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 12:00PM at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 10941 Southern Blvd.,Royal Palm Beach, FL. A Celebration of Mary's life will be July 14, 2018 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the clubhouse of her community, Windjammer Condominiums, 1850 SW Palm City Rd., Stuart, FL 34994.
