MELVEN SOLOMON Melven "Red" Solomon, 90, died Sunday morning, February 16, 2003, at Memorial Pembroke Hospital under the Care of Vitas Hospice. He was a celebrated trumpet player of the Big Band era, appearing with Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey; studio recording musician for such artists as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong; and he appeared on many nationwide live television variety shows of the 1950's, including The Perry Como Show and The Jackie Gleason Show. He is survived by daughters, Deanna S. Kitay of Chapel Hill, NC and Rita Sands of Durham, NC. In lieu of flowers the family would be grateful for donations in his name to the Foundation for End-of-Like Care, Vitas Hospice Fund, 5420 NW 33rd Ave. Suite 100, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
