Loyd Colbert Obituary
Loyd E. Colbert, 85, passed away peacefully at La Loma Care Center in Litchfield Park, Arizona, November 3rd, surrounded by his family. Loyd was born on August 25, 1933, in Ola Arkansas to Lamar & Wilma Colbert. He was the second oldest son of four.

Loyd moved to Arizona in 1948 and went to work for J.G. Boswell. It is in Phoenix Arizona where he met and married the love of his life Janice Colbert (Upson) on December 13, 1953. They had two daughters and one son. After 12 years with J.G. Boswell, Loyd and the family relocated to the San Joaquin Valley where Loyd went to work for Giffin Inc., and would oversee the construction of area cotton gins. He later became a service manager for Lummus Industries, and eventually going on the road as a Lummus sales representative, earning what KB Smith, Executive Vice-President of California Cotton Ginner's Association, termed, a "legendary" reputation from Old Mexico to Blythe.

In 1966 Loyd and the family relocated to Blythe where Loyd joined Modern Ginning Company as the Manager, and made the company into Central California's most prosperous gins. He sat on the Board of Directors for the California Cotton Ginners Association for 13 years, and was also a delegate on the National Cotton Council and served on the Board for 3 years. In 1991, he was recognized as the "Outstanding Ginner of the Year" for his accomplishments in the cotton industry and contributions to the Association, and his participation in the National Cotton Council. In 1995, he was once again recognized for his accomplishments in the cotton industry and awarded the Horace Hayden Award.

After many years of service to Modern Ginning Company as the Manager, Loyd semi-retired and served as President of the company until his retirement in April 2016.

Loyd enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and traveling in their RV. Their travels took them to many places throughout the United States, including fishing trips to Lake Powell, Alaska and Oregon.

Loyd and Janice loved their home in Blythe, but made the decision to move to Litchfield Park Arizona after Loyd's retirement in April, to be closer to their doctors and medical facilities.

Loyd is survived by his wife of 64 years Janice Colbert, daughter Linda Walden (John), daughter Doris Lefever (Mike), son John Colbert (Helen), brothers Roy Lee Colbert and Thomas Colbert, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, one great great grand child and numerous nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lamar & Wilma Colbert, brother Bart Colbert and granddaughter Darla Beshears Goude.

Loyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend that will be greatly missed by all but kept in our hearts.

Memorial services will be held at Frye Chapel & Mortuary on November 17th, at 11:00 am, with a luncheon immediately following at the Elks Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Loyd Colbert Memorial Scholarship.. payable to Modern Ginning Company.
