Robert "Gene" McMillen Obituary
Robert Eugene "Gene" McMillen passed away peacefully on November 21, 2018 in Sun City, Arizona.

Gene was born February 20, 1932 in Edina, Missouri, the second of four children to Kenneth and Lucille (Cassidy) McMillen. He grew up on the family's farm outside of Edina and attended Catholic grade and high school and graduated from St Joseph's Catholic High School.

He married the love of his life Rosemary Kathleen Goodwin on January 24, 1953 at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri. A few days later he left for Korea where he served as a communications specialist with the US Army. He returned from Korea in June, 1954 and started college at Kirksville Teacher's College in Kirksville, Missouri. He taught at various schools in Iowa and Arizona before settling in Blythe California, where he taught until his retirement. Soon thereafter, Gene and Rosemary relocated to Sun City, Arizona where he enjoyed almost daily rounds of golf and the abundant sunshine and warmth.

Gene was a devote Catholic his entire life. In 1955 he joined the Knights of Columbus. In February 2006 he achieved the honor of 4th Degree Knight for which he was very proud of.

Gene is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosemary McMillen, as well as five daughters, and two sons. Becky McMillen Hasha (Dale) of Sun City, Arizona; Mary Jeanne Brown of Carlsbad, California; Tish Thompson (Willard) of El Centro, California; Lisa Bradford (Roy) of Phelan, California; Theresa Hartman (Wendell) of Salem, Oregon; Rob McMillen (Suzanne) of Kennewick, Washington; Christopher McMillen of Buckeye, Arizona and son-in-law, Joe Ziber of Vista, California.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Ziber (October 14, 2014) of El Cajon, California as well as brother Donald McMillen (September 28, 2011) and sister Margaret Ann Breen (December 18, 2002), father Kenneth McMillen (December 1978) and mother, Lucille McMillen (June 1997). Gene is also survived by his sister, Betty Hamilton (Gene) of Urbandale, Iowa (and Mesa, Arizona) and sisters in law, Dorothy Kaufmann of Mesa, Arizona, Margie Branham of Lakeside, California and Verna Marie Dabney of Glendale, Arizona. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren. Jonathan Howard (Ginny) of Yutan, Nebraska; Kathleen Wells (Nate) of Oceanside, California; Megan Curran (Michael) of Vista, California; Michael Lyon (Louise) both world travelers; Jeremy Bradford (Lisa) of Oak Hills, California; Joseph Bradford (Natalie) of Pinon, California; Elizabeth Howeth (Bill) of Chula Vista, California; Joseph Ziber of Costa Mesa, California; Andrew Ziber of Columbia, Missouri; Brianna Wolterman (Paul) of Silverton, Oregon, Danielle Dieter (Keaton) of Tigard, Oregon; Clinton Baker of Clarksville, Tennessee; Robbie and Derek McMillen of Kennewick, Washington and Cheyenne McMillen of Bells, Texas. Gene is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abraham, Samuel, Kailyn, Maleah, Axel, Judah, Madison, Hunter, Joshua, Justin, Juliette, Jace, Josie, Blakely, Harry and Jack and two great-great grandchildren, Leslie and Carter.

Services were held on December 3, 2018 at St Joachim and St Ann Catholic Church in Sun City, Arizona.
Interment immediately followed the church service at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
Menke Funeral Home of Sun City, Arizona handled the arrangements.
