Dudley Claude Blodget, 84, of Paradise died peacefully at home after a brief illness on August 28, 2013. His wife and 3 children were at his bedside.
Claude was the patriarch of the Blodget family and is survived by Sandra, his wife of 57 years, son David and wife Sandy, daughter Lorena Ferchaud and husband Daniel, and son Daniel. Grandchildren Christopher Blodget and wife Gemma, Bryan Blodget, wife Tiffany and great grandson Ashton, Daniel, Elyse and Aaron Ferchaud, Sue, Sam and Max Just. He is also survived by three brothers Rush, Arba and David.
Claude was born in Santa Monica, California on December 4, 1928 to Rush M. Blodget Sr. and Ruth Venita Deeds. His childhood was filled with wonderful family memories and summers spent on Balboa Island and camping at Big Bear.
Claude graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Entomology and Herpetology. He traveled as a researcher with the Scripts Institute to the Galapagos Islands where he fell in love with the Darwin Stag Beetle. After graduation, he joined the Army and was deployed to Korea, working as a medical entomologist with the 8079th MASH unit. Discharged from the Army in 1954 as a First Lieutenant, he worked in the entomology lab at UCLA and was a member of many research parties traveling to Mexico to study iguanas, which were then donated to the San Diego Zoo.
Claude was an accomplished wood carver and expert marksman in target shooting. Prior to his death, he was able to distribute to his children and grandchildren each gun in his collection, along with the history of each piece. Claude willingly shared his experience, expertise and opinions with those around him. He will be missed greatly but will be in our hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Sept. 14 at Paradise Lutheran Church 780 Luther Dr. Paradise. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at The Plantation Clubhouse off Buschman Rd. Paradise.
