George Taylor Davis Obituary
GEORGE TAYLOR DAVIS March 28, 1925-January 11, 2018 George Taylor Davis died at home on January 11, 2018, from complications of a stroke. He was 92 years old. Born on a dry farm in Utah, he was the second child and oldest son of George Henry Davis and Amelia Taylor Davis. He grew up in Garland, Utah, where he attended Bear River High School. At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during WW II. After the war, he graduated from Utah State College with a degree in civil engineering and married Anna Theurer. The two moved to Salt Lake City where they began their family. In 1957, George was hired by the Department of Water Resources to work on the California Water Project and the family moved to Paradise, CA. Anna took a teaching post in Paradise where they raised their two daughters and a son. After the completion of Oroville Dam, George worked for the Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco, commuting back to Paradise on weekends. He was able to expand his love of music in San Francisco and attended many concerts. After retirement, George took a bike trip across the country with a good friend and did two extensive bike trips in Europe. George and Anna later divorced and in 2003 he married Georgia Greenwalt and relocated to Chico. George and Georgia enjoyed several years of world travel. In his later years, George enjoyed his walks, his classes at Ollie (Shakespeare, poetry, guitar) the symphony and plays. Always a lover of the outdoors, he continued to be very physically active even after heart valve surgery at age 90. He made excellent use of the Enloe Cardiac Outpatient Rehab program and its extension at Acker gym, rising before 6:00 a.m. in order to participate. He insisted on taking a daily walk up until a week before his death. George is survived by wife Georgia and his three children by Anna Davis: Linda Davis-Reed (Randall) and Robert Davis (Debbi) of Paradise, Susan Davis of Des Moines, WA; three grandchildren: Grant Reed, Colin Davis, and Amelia Yonan; two great-grandchildren and two step-sons. We will remember our Dad for his exemplary parenting and grandparenting, his ready wit, his determination and fortitude in keeping up his fitness and independence for as long as possible and his desire to continue learning. He was well loved and will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held for George on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Chico Women's Club, 592 E. 3 Street in Chico at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in George's name may do so by contacting The Enloe Foundation at (530) 332-4550 and making a donation to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program or by donating to Osher Lifelong Learning (Ollie) by calling (530) 898-6679.
