James R. Partain Obituary
The gregarious and joyful James Russell Partain, 67, departed on his cruise to Rock'n Roll Heaven on the morning of May 14, 2013 from the Hospice House, in Paradise, California. Jim lived a full and meaningful life in spite of his nine year battle with multiple myeloma. He was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his death.
Jim was born in Richmond, California on August 15, 1945, to Frances and James Partain. He graduated from Clovis High School in 1963. After high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a medic with the First Cavalry Airborne and the Second of the Seventh Cavalry divisions in Vietnam from 1965-1966. After an honorable discharge from the military, he attended Fresno City College and later transferred to Diablo Valley College.
Jim was employed as a steamfitter for 30 years and was a member of the Steamfitters Local 342, in Concord, California. When he retired in 2002, Jim moved to Paradise where he met and married his dedicated wife, Virginia Mabry Partain. They danced through nine years of adventures together.
Jim celebrated 32 years of sobriety as an active member of "Friends of Bill W." As an avid traveler Jim enjoyed motorcycles, cruise ships and trains. "Four-putt Jim" loved the links no matter how high his score and was a connoisseur of chocolate.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; two sons, Steven Partain and Daniel Partain; and their mother Patty Landis; daughter-in-law Annette Partain; two granddaughters, Danika and Brooklyn-Rose; his brother, Ron Partain; his loyal dog Cinnamon Sugar; and numerous loving relatives.
The family wishes to express thanks for the loving medical care Jim received from Dr. Sam Mazj and the late Dr. John Howard; Nurses Laurie and Judy at Feather River; the staff at Feather River Cancer Center; Nurse Jan and the staff at the Enloe Cancer Center; the donors and staff of The Blood Source; and the staff at the Paradise Hospice House.
Jim, his family and friends held a living memorial service prior to his death. No further services are planned. In lieu of flowers the family invites a donation to http://www.gofundme.com/2x0i4g to help pay for hospice and other expenses not covered by insurance.
Jim will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. In honor of him please enjoy a piece of chocolate cake.
