She attended Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri, and later obtained a B.A. in Music Theater from the University of Utah. She married Clarke B. Lium on August 12, 1956, later divorced.

Marian was a successful insurance agent for Travelers Insurance where she received numerous national awards and accolades for her sales and professionalism. She was an accomplished horsewoman who won national jumping competitions as a young woman. She resided in Park City, Utah, for 22 years. She was a member of the Creekside Christian Fellowship in Park City, Utah, prior to moving to southern Utah in 2017.

She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Anderson of Great Falls, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cathy Louise Lium and her brother Francis Story Goeltz.
