Helen Louise Cooley was born on August 21, 1954 to Walter and Mildred Gaertner in St. Louis, Missouri, and passed into the presence of her beloved Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on August 19, 2018 in San Diego, California. Helen's brother, George, and her father, Walter, preceded her to heaven and she is survived by her loving husband Keith Cooley, her dear mother Mildred Gaertner, her wonderful children, Brandon Klock, Adam and Maryam Klock, Eric and Jessica Klock, and her dearly loved grandchildren, Ronan, Kimiya, Holly, and Roya.
From the time she was a little girl, Helen appreciated God's beautiful creation and the simple joys of being with loved ones. Some of her most cherished memories growing up were on her family's dairy farm with her brother George. Helen graduated with a teaching degree from St. Paul's College in Concordia, Missouri and her passion for teaching continued throughout her life. She was also a lifelong learner, always fascinated to discover new things.
On December 21, 1992 Helen married the love of her life, Keith, and they enjoyed 25 wonderful years of marriage and adventures together. Keith and Helen shared an appreciation for being outdoors, traveling, mountain biking and hiking the beautiful trails of Park City and camping in the Uinta's. She was a devoted mother who loved her children deeply and was very proud of her three sons and the men they have become. She was delighted when two precious daughters and then four precious grandchildren were added to the family, and they brought her immeasurable joy. Like most grandmothers, being with her grandchildren doing almost anything was a favorite activity in recent years.
Helen's life was centered around her devotion to Jesus and she found her greatest fulfillment in the love she gave to and received from those closest to her. Her joyful enthusiasm was contagious, and she was dearly loved by all her family and many friends. She was intentional about her relationships and had a rare gift of treating everyone like they were the most treasured person in the world. Helen had an endearing sense of humor and a childlike spontaneity that often caused her to laugh out loud or skip with joy across a room. When you think of Helen, it is always with her beautiful smile and warm, sparkling eyes. She was a lifelong student of the Bible and an excellent Bible teacher who took great delight and care in sharing God's Truth with others. Another hallmark of Helen's life was that she was a loyal and true friend, and a faithful woman of prayer. While she was an excellent listener, she was also known by many to be a trusted confidant. She had a gift of consistently and deliberately encouraging people, celebrating them and helping them to see new possibilities and perspectives. She was an asset to the local community and sincerely appreciated the many people she and Keith had developed a relationship with through the Park City Rug Company for over thirty years, as well as the Christian community in the region and beyond.
Helen exemplified the closing words of 1 Corinthians 13... "Now abides faith, hope and love, these three, and the greatest of these is love." If she could tell you anything, it would be to treasure every moment and the things that really matter in life. Helen finished well and will be remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Helen's life will be held at Creekside Fellowship in Park City on Tuesday, September 4, at 7 pm. Everyone is invited to a reception before the service, at 6 pm at the church. Light refreshments will be served.

Helen has been my lifelong friend since we met at age 13 in seventh grade. Though separated by many miles through our lifetimes, Helen remained my bestie that I could write, call or visit and pick up the relationship immediately. We shared our deepest agonies and triumphs throughout school and this forged our deep connection that was never broken. We shared our life journeys of marriage, children, careers and a love for Jesus Christ. Helen is irreplaceable in my heart but I rejoice in her victory through Christ and her eternal joy. I miss you dear friend. Love, Nancy
