George W. Burge
George W. Burge passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2012. Born April 24, 1931 in Pittsburgh, George overcame childhood blindness to earn his engineering degree from Carnegie Tech. In 1955, George married Etta Lockhart and in 1959, relocated to work for McDonnell-Douglas until his retirement. He developed technologies for spacecraft fuel systems, including the Apollo Saturn 5 rockets. With Etta, he raised his family in Lakewood Village and traveled - Pennsylvania, Catalina Island, New England, Mississippi steamboat cruises. Every Wednesday, George played clarinet in the Long Beach Senior Center Band. George was preceded in death by Etta in 2009. He is survived by three sons, Mark (Cindy), Paul (Alice) and Chris (Jan), six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, and brother Jim (Linda). Memorial services will be at Lakewood Village Community Church (4515 Sunfield Avenue, 90808) at 11AM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 followed by reception at the family home.
