March 6, 1929 - November 30, 2018Betty was born to Roy and Fannie Cochran in Alhambra, California, seven months before the stock market crash of 1929. After high school graduation, Betty attended the Sawyer School of Business in Pasadena and subsequently worked as an executive secretary. In 1954 Betty married John Foulkes, a classmate from Alhambra High School, and was his dear companion for 64 years. They have two daughters, Debbie Foulkes and Suzi Foulkes Vermillion. As a Christian, Betty wanted to work to help further the message of the Gospel. She was on the administrative staff of Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena for 15 years. She was recruited to Gospel Light Publications in Glendale and stayed there for several years. In 1980 Betty moved to Human Resources at World Vision International, which at that time had offices in Monrovia, California. As Manager of Employee Relations, Betty assisted international aid workers with their relocation needs worldwide. This position also gave her the opportunity to visit overseas projects, and she traveled to Kenya, Rwanda, and Austria. She retired from WVI in 1998. As a layperson at First Baptist Church of Alhambra and Lake Avenue Church, Betty served on many committees. At Lake Avenue Church she was the first woman to chair a major boardShe is survived by her husband John, daughter Debbie Foulkes (South Pasadena, California), daughter Suzi Vermillion (Bella Vista, Arkansas), grandson Joseph Vermillion (Kansas City, Missouri), Jason Vermillion, USAF (Eglin Air Force Base, Florida), her devoted caregiver and friend Alicia Buelna, and many other beloved family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena on December 13 at 2:00 pm.
