1930 - 2018David H. Weakley (Dave), previous educator and Rotarian in Alhambra, passed away November 7, 2018 near his Port Ludlow, WA home. Born April 20, 1930 in Glendale, CA. At age two moved to El Centro, CA where his father was Superintendent of Schools.He graduated from high school in 1947; from Pomona College in Claremont, CA in 1951; received two Master's degrees from San Diego State University and did post graduate work at Stanford University. Dave's first marriage in 1952 welcomed one son Craig Vincent and one daughter Carrie Lynn.Dave served in the U.S. Army Infantry (1953-1955). Stationed in the Free Territory of Trieste, Italy, and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sgt. First Class.Dave was an educator for 35 years. After a successful career from teacher to principal in Salinas, CA from 1955 to 1973, he became Principal of Mark Keppel High School (1973-76) and Century High School (1976-90) in Alhambra, CA.Dave met the love of his life Anita Miller and married in San Marino, CA in 1973. As a team they welcomed another teenage son Anthony Jerome Dabney and God-daughter Ana Luisa Espinosa into their lives. During their almost 46 years of marriage they were a team as parents, educators, Rotarians, business owners, and travelers.Dave's love of music began as a child and continued into his adult life. After moving to Washington, Dave sang with and directed the Port Ludlow Singers and was preparing his chorus for Christmas season performances less than a week before he had heart failure.Dave was an active member of Rotary International (1961-2004) in Salinas and was Alhambra Rotary Club President 1990-1991, He created and directed the Rotary Singers Mixed Chorus and True Key Notes Mixed Chorus.Dave exemplified service above self and was a man of deep faith. He was devoted to his wife and extended family. He had a zest for life, high intelligence, wonderful sense of humor, and charismatic personality that allowed everyone to feel his genuine acceptance and inclusion. His integrity and impactful life was beyond reproach.Dave was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his beloved daughter Carrie Lynn Gummer (Brian). He is survived by his wife Anita, his sons Craig (Claudia Peters) and Anthony (Gayla), God-daughter Ana Luisa Castillo (Beethoven), eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.Please sign the guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/pasadenastarnews.
